http://www.arburg.com - The ARBURG Technology Days 2016 included a light-hearted demonstration of just what automation can achieve: a picker, linear robotic system and six-axis robot were used to help a fleet of Bruder model cars negotiate an obstacle course. An INTEGRALPICKER V loaded and unload two dumper trucks and a tractor, while a linear MULTILIFT V robotic system made sure that the vehicles covered a great deal of ground in dynamic style. In addition, a six-axis robot used its repertoire of flexible 3D movements to handle a tractor. The three automation units worked hand-in-hand and communicated with one another by means of peripheral equipment interfaces. This extra special event was rounded off with a spectacular show, top-class guest speakers and a gala dinner. In his address, Managing Partner Michael Hehl emphasised that the demand for machines with complex equipment, large ALLROUNDERs and customised turnkey solutions remained very high. This was the reason why it was decided to increase the production area to around 165,000 m2. William R. Carteaux, President of the SPI (Society of the Plastics Industry), expressed his congratulations in a video-link message. Another guest speaker was Thorsten Kühmann, Managing Director of the German Machinery and Plant Manufacturers Association (VDMA) for Plastics and Rubber Machinery. The highlights of the new electric ALLROUNDER series were presented by the new Managing Director Sales, Gerhard Böhm, together with his predecessor, Helmut Heinson, who received the ARBURG Logo in Gold from the Managing Partners to mark his official retirement. Plastics parts production: fully automated single-unit batches

http://www.arburg.com – On the example of an "office scissors" ARBURG has automated additive manufacturing and thereby implemented a fully IT-networked production line for the individualisation of high-volume parts using Industry 4.0 technology. A seven-axis robot “iiwa” links the ALLROUNDER injection moulding machine with the freeformer for additive manufacturing. The robot removes the scissors’ handle from the injection moulding machine’s conveyor belt. A scanner is used to identify the scissors via its individual code. The freeformer is then automatically loaded and cleared. Inside the freeformer the desired 3D geometry from plastics is being added onto the scissors handle. The result is a unique final product in batch size one. Kunststoffteile-Fertigung: vollautomatisch zur Losgröße 1 http://www.arburg.com – ARBURG hat am Beispiel „Büroschere“ eine informationstechnisch vernetzte Produktionslinie zur Individualisierung von Großserienteilen mit Industrie 4.0-Technologien realisiert. Ein Sieben-Achs-Roboter „iiwa“ verkettet die ALLROUNDER Spritzgießmaschine mit dem freeformer für die additive Fertigung. Er entnimmt jede umspritzte Büroschere vom Förderband der Spritzgießzelle. Über einen individuellen Code wird die Schere per Scanner identifiziert. Der freeformer Bauraum wird automatisch be- und entladen. Dort wird auf den Scherengriff additiv die gewünschte 3D-Geometrie aus Kunststoff aufgebracht. Ergebnis ist ein Unikat in Losgröße 1.

Smart Factory – ARBURG shows production in three „factories“

The various work processes take place at different times and in different locations, effectively in three different "factories". The first step was the moulding of the light switch and the application of a DM code prior to the Fakuma 2015. From this point onwards, the product itself becomes the data and information carrier, communicating with the machines, recording its own history and status and steering its own path through the process chain. Visitors to the ARBURG exhibition stand were allowed to personalise the moulded parts "live" and could later have them packaged to their individual design on the stand of partner FPT Robotik. The ARBURG host computer system (ALS), plays a central role in networking the autonomous stations. Smart Factory – ARBURG zeigt Fertigung in drei „Fabriken“ http://www.arburg.com – Am Beispiel Lichtschalter-Wippe veranschaulicht ARBURG die Idee von Industrie 4.0 und der „Smart Factory“. Die einzelnen Arbeitsschritte erfolgen zeitlich und räumlich getrennt, also quasi in drei „Fabriken“. Die Lichtschalter wurden im Vorfeld der Messe Fakuma 2015 spritzgegossen und ein DM-Code aufgebracht. Ab diesem Moment wird das Produkt selbst zum Daten- und Informationsträger. Auf dem ARBURG Messestand konnten Besucher die Spritzteile „live“ individualisieren und zu einem beliebigen Zeitpunkt später am Stand des Partners FPT Robotik individuell verpacken lassen. Zentrale Bedeutung kam dem ARBURG Leitrechnersystem (ALS) zu, das die autarken Stationen vernetzte.

Werkzeugfunktionen wie das servoelektrische Drehen sind vollständig in die hydraulische Spritzgießmaschine integriert. Im Vergleich zu herkömmlichen Werkzeugen stehen bei der Würfeltechnik mehr Kavitäten bei gleicher Aufspannfläche zur Verfügung.

Thumb wheel (automotive application): Functional part in a single step

http://www.arburg.com – A three-component injection moulding machine produces thumb wheels for car interiors. High-quality plastic parts with soft-touch surface are created through a specific material combination. The horizontal and vertical injection units arranged in an L-configuration inject the basic body in PC, the electroplateable visible surface in ABS and the soft-touch surface in TPE in the 4-cavity mould. Part handling is performed by a vertical robotic system which is equipped with a freely moving X axis. An important feature is the programming of the entire production sequence via the central SELOGICA control system. Durch gezielte Materialkombination entstehen hochwertige Kunststoffteile mit Soft-Touch-Oberfläche. Die horizontal, vertikal und in L-Stellung angeordneten Spritzeinheiten spritzen den Grundkörper aus PC, die galvanisierbare Sichtfläche aus ABS und die Soft-Touch-Oberfläche aus TPE. Die Handhabung übernimmt ein vertikales Robot-System mit frei verfahrbarer X-Achse. Ein wichtiges Feature ist das Programmieren des gesamten Fertigungsablaufs über die zentrale SELOGICA Steuerung.

http://www.arburg.com - The freeformer produces fully functional parts and varying designs in small batches from 3D CAD files and standard granulate. The industrial additive manufacturing process is called ARBURG Plastic Freeforming (AKF). This innovative solution allows freedom in the selection, combination and processing of plastics materials as well as a dust-free, low noise production surrounding. The desired part is being produced layer by layer from miniscule droplets. Die innovative Lösung bieten Freiheit in der Auswahl, Kombination und Verarbeitung von Kunststoffen sowie eine staubfreie, leise Produktionsumgebung. Das Bauteil wird Schicht für Schicht aus kleinsten Tropfen aufgebaut. Mit zwei Austragseinheiten ausgestattet, kann der freeformer auch Bauteile in verschiedenen Farben, mit spezieller Haptik oder als Hart-Weich-Verbindung erzeugen.

Plastics Hall of Fame 2015: Eugen Hehl honoured for life’s work

http://www.arburg.com - On March 22, 2015, Eugen Hehl was inducted into the “Plastics Hall of Fame” for his lifetime achievements. Together with his brother Karl Hehl, who passed away in 2010, today’s senior Partner made ARBURG into a global leader in the manufacture of injection moulding machines. Eighty-six-year-old Eugen Hehl expressed his thanks for the award, which was bestowed to him on the day before the NPE 2015 trade fair in Orlando, USA, by video message: “I feel deeply honoured to be included in the SPI Hall of Fame and I thank you with all my heart. With the invention of the ALLROUNDER and of the freeformer, we have made technological history – a history that we would like to build upon significantly in the future.” Plastics Hall of Fame 2015: Eugen Hehl für Lebenswerk ausgezeichnet http://www.arburg.com - Für sein Lebenswerk wurde Eugen Hehl am 22. März 2015 in die „Plastics Hall of Fame“ aufgenommen. Der heutige Seniorchef machte ARBURG, gemeinsam mit seinem im Jahr 2010 verstorbenen Bruder Karl Hehl, zu einem weltweit führenden Hersteller von Spritzgießmaschinen. Über eine Videobotschaft bedankt sich der 86-jährige Eugen Hehl für die Auszeichnung, die am Vortag der Messe NPE 2015 in Orlando/USA verliehen wurde: „Ich fühle mich durch die Aufnahme in die SPI Hall of Fame sehr geehrt – und bedanke mich dafür ganz herzlich. Mit den Erfindungen des ALLROUNDERs und des freeformers haben wir Technikgeschichte geschrieben – eine Geschichte, in der wir in Zukunft noch viele Seiten füllen wollen.“
