Digital model of the lung enables more gentle ventilation

Artificial ventilation can save lives, not only in severe cases of Covid-19 disease. At the same time, pressure ventilation is also an extreme strain on the lung tissue. This can have fatal consequences, especially if the lung is damaged. A digital model of the lung, developed at the Technical University of Munich, enables gentler ventilation and could thus significantly increase the chances of survival. The current version of the digital lung model is the result of many years of research. This film report on the work was produced already in 2015 and provides insights into the research work. In the meantime, the researchers have further developed the lung model so that it can actually be used in clinics. ► Further information https://www.tum.de/news ► Follow TUM!
