Robots have become an indispensable part of many work steps. However, they can often become dangerous to humans because they react inadequately to their environment. Prof. Matthias Althoff of the TUM Chair of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Real-time Systems has developed a modular, self-programming system to enable humans and robots to cooperate more closely in the future: IMPROV. This allows robots to be individually assembled for different tasks, which can also react to people in their environment and thus work particularly safely.
