Since CAD applications and methods to use digital data are constantly changing, sharing data can be a challenge. Companies are looking at ISO 10303 STEP AP 242 for both sharing data as well as maintaining data for Long Term Data Archival and Retrieval (LOTAR), Known as International Consortium for Standardization STEP AP 242. This consortium has set the stage for a multi CAD environment, while creating standards to share 3D data with the Model Based Enterprise (MBE) or the digital thread.
As a part of the LOTAR consortium, the parties insisting on the validate properties to include geometric, annotations, assembly, saved views, user defined attributes, color, visibility and reports. The consortium is increasingly adding requirements to ensure that a high level of information is provided to meet the product life cycle. CT is the first interoperability company to develop the method of checking the validation properties of the AP STEP242 files based on the recommended practices of the LOTAR organization. File Validation is an important process for both sharing and storing data for future references.
