The Digital Nature of Additive Manufacturing

From pixel to voxel - digital value chains for production: Dr. Hans Langer from EOS @ Fraunhofer DDMC 2020. Additive Manufacturing allows for a new way of thinking and creates value along the entire digital value chain of a product. The technology enables a completely digital value chain: we see digital design emerging, based on a seamless software from scan to part; digital materials and processes, in a next step, enable significant productivity increases in a production environment where costs per part are key. Last but not least we move digital manufacturing from a pixel to a voxel level. As such, the technology is facilitating completely new business models – from design through production to spare parts.
