A full size 3D printed replica of a Tyrannosaurus rex

It's 14 meters long, 5 meters tall and consists of 300 bones! After a year of 3D scanning, modelling and 3D printing, the fully 3D printed replica of the T. rex is finished. The 12 meter long and 5 meter tall replica will be shipped to the Japanese Dinosaur Museum late April 2021. Dutch Museum Naturalis has used large scale 3D printing before, but this is the first time they 3D printed a full size dinosaur from head to toe. The original t. rex was 3D scanned and was digitized to be able to change the position in a more attacking/walking mode. All bones were printed in the highest quality possible, using a 0.4 mm nozzle, to make sure no details were lost during the printing process. For this project, Naturalis used 2 Builder Extreme 1500 PRO machines. The replica will now be send to its final destination, the Japanese Dinosaur Museum. Read the full business case here:
